We bid a fond farewell to the West Side Inn

It was both a joyous and sad day on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. TIJO played its final West Side Inn performance, to a great crowd of our regular fans and newcomers alike. The band was really cooking that evening, with many "over-the-top" solos, and tight ensemble work. Check our our photo page for some view from the trumpet section that night. Hope to have some video from that night up soon.

Our set list for the night was:
Basically Blues
Cold Tater Stomp
88 Basie Street
High Maintenance
Lament
Oye Como Va
Here's Rob
Caravan

Hunting Wabbits
Nica's Dream
Nearness of You
Softly as in a Morning Sunrise
Sing Sang Sung
Love for Sale

We are sad that our gracious host for the last seven-plus years, has to close the West Side Inn. Rob Schweifler has been a great supporter of TIJO throughout most of our history. The original plan was to just hold our reheasals there, instead of the warehouse space we were using. But, when you have an audience, the rehearsal turned into a performance! And we have been performing there regularly for over seven years. We cannot thank Rob enough for all he has done to provide a performance space for us.

Welcome

Fronted by West Michigan's legendary drummer, Tim Froncek, this group of 16 of the area's top musicians plays charts from the classic era of the big bands, up to today's best charts from the hottest writers. The band was organized by Dave Collee, Ed Spier, and Matt Lintula, who wanted a group able to play pro-level big band literature, and have fun doing it! We have assembled a great bunch of area musicians who enjoy the challenge of playing great charts in a large ensemble.

Playing a mixture of classic jazz big band pieces from the Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, and other big band libraries, plus some VERY recent charts from Gordon Goodwin and others.
